Tank Girl Returns

Ashley Wood's Tank Girl

Tank Girl: The Gifting is a new four-part comic book series — Ms Girl’s first outing in over ten years. While original writer and co-creator Alan Martin continues to write, Jamie Hewlett is out of the picture (rolling around in Gorillaz cash, no doubt) and artist Ashley Wood (Zombies vs Robots) takes the visual reigns. While stylistically totally different it looks stunning and I’m told that it features the same poop, violence and kangaroo sex gags that we’re all used to. (via Boing Boing)

Then buy a copy for yourself from iTunes! Also available on eMusic and Rhapsody

Update: You can now also buy a real life physical CD version via Made to Order Records for a very reasonable £3.

Mars: Now with added meat

Mars – now with added rennet scraped from the lining of a new-born calf’s stomach: Mars add a bit of cow meat to Mars, Galaxy, Snickers, Twix, Maltesers, Bounty, Minstrels and Milky Way in the UK. One way of getting me to eat less chocolate, I guess.

Update: Mars have announced that they’re reverting back to the recipe without animal-based rennet but cannot guarantee that their products on the shelves don’t contain meat byproducts. Check here for details on which Mars products are suitable for vegetarians, or will be after the sell-by dates specified.

Los Angeles in Photographs, 1920-1990

Walt Disney with some Pirates of the Caribbean heads

I haven’t had a chance to post anything for a while so I’m catching up a a bit here. Originally mentioned by Blackwing Diaries, the UCLA’s Department of Special Collections unveiled a new website with 5,100 images from the archives of the LA Times and the Los Angeles Daily News.

Cartoon Brew has been rooting through the archives and has come up with a load of interesting photos of Disneyland, Walt Disney Studios (the strikes, and the never very camera-shy Ward Kimball), Bill Peet and many more that haven’t been seen for a very long time. Enjoy.

Update: Boing Boing has also been on a photo hunt and come up a whole new array of goodies.
