Robots in Disguise

I don’t think I could possibly add anything to this.

Disney’s response on Destino and Legacy DVDs

I thought I’d drop Disney a line to find out what happened to the Walt Disney Legacy Collection DVD set and, more specifically, the Destino DVD. Sadly, I still don’t know much more:

“At this time, we do not have a DVD release date for DESTINO. We will forward your request for release to our Marketing Department for consideration. No additional LEGACY COLLECTION releases have been announced.”

Did I dream the Destino DVD box mock-up that was, until recently, displayed on the Legacy site?

The Helvetica Notebook

Helvetica notebook

The typographic geek inside me finds this two-sided notebook from Veer incredibly amusing. Featuring quotes from Helvetica, the documentary film by Gary Hustwit, in 3pt type it’s available direct for $22 if you’re in the US. If you’re outside the US I’m afraid you’re out of luck. (via swissmiss)

The Rock Balancing Art of Bill Dan

The Rock Balancing Art of Bill Dan: Need a new hobby for the summer? How about putting rocks on top of each other.

Could California split from the USA?

Could California split from the USA? “California’s governor has also put his finger on a little discussed flaw in America’s constitutional formula. The United States is almost certainly too big to be a meaningful democracy. What does “participatory democracy” mean in a continent? Sooner or later, a profound, probably regional, decentralization of the federal system may be all but inevitable.” (via Kottke)

Monorails from old aeroplanes… and driverless buses

masstramdrawing1.JPG

Mass Tram America: Here’s a rather interesting concept for a monorail built entirely from decommissioned, de-winged Boeing plane fuselages. Powered by renewable energy sources the tram can theoretically travel from 100-200mph. (via Danny’s Land)

I’d also love to see these driverless electric and biofuel hybrid buses too. They work by following magnets on the floor, satellite navigation and with onboard sensors. Is the future finally here?!

Diary of a goof-off

A word from the wise: If you’re going to slack off at work, don’t document everything you’re doing (or, not doing) in a journal and save it on your office computer like Sheraton hotel employee Emmalee Bauer did. (via Gawker)

Happy 300th Birthday Great Britain

Today marks the 300th anniversary of the 1707 Acts of Union, where Scotland joined England to form The Kingdom of Great Britain. In a true British style we’re celebrating by mostly ignoring it… and releasing a special two pound coin. Happy Birthday Britain!
